Daily Word | “Ask for what you need”| Kingdom Learners

April 9, 2022

Are you asking God for what you need? One of the clearest examples of prayer is found in Matthew 7:7 where Jesus teaches, “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened.” Said another way, whatever is not asked for should not be expected to be received. James 4:3 says you do not have because you do not ask. So, we must ask for what we need.

Then Jesus says, if asking isn’t enough, seek God in his place of glory. Remember, prayer is about establishing a healthy and intimate relationship with the Lord. This is why Jesus prompts us to seek after Him.

Even then, the Lord takes it one step further and reminds us that sometimes we need to knock on the doors of heaven so they may be opened. Think of it this way, who would go to someone’s house and stand at the door, without knocking, and expect them to answer? Sounds crazy, right? When we seek God in the heavenly realms, we are implored by Christ to persistently knock on the gates of heaven, until God answers.

In summary, prayer is about asking God for what we need, seeking to be in relationship with Him, and persistently knocking at the gates of heaven. Perhaps this is why Jesus told his followers, “Pray and do not lose heart” (Luke 18:1).
